It's legendary status is based on the fact that it kickstarted Bowie's Berlin period (recorded before but released after Bowie's own "Low" album) and much is made of the fact that it was discovered revolving on Ian Curtis' record player at the scene of his suicide. Musically, The Idiot is of a piece with the impressionistic music of Bowie 's 'Berlin Period' (such as Heroes and Low ), with it's fragmented guitar figures, ominous basslines, and discordant, high-relief keyboard parts. I had the album on vinyl but wished to have it on CD.
